Common questions
How do I create a routine?
Open Routines and choose New routine. Choose habits, allow Screen Time access if requested, select apps or categories in Apple’s picker, set a name and schedule, choose a 30- or 60-day guided period, and choose whether to allow reminders. Review your choices and save. Each routine can have its own habits, schedule, and app selection.
How do my apps become available again?
Finish the habits required by the routine. Confirmation, writing, and checklist habits have a final confirmation action; if the last habit is timed, tap Finish routine after the timer ends. Another unfinished routine can keep shared apps paused. Ending a monitoring interval or simply waiting does not release an unfinished routine.
Why did my timer or writing disappear?
Keep the habit screen open. Leaving it or backgrounding HabitFlip resets an unfinished timer and clears temporary writing and checklist responses. Meditation also stops on an audio interruption or headphone disconnection. Completed habit progress stays saved.
My scheduled routine did not start. What should I check?
Check Screen Time access, selected apps or categories, the routine’s days and time, and whether the routine is paused or in independent practice. After a device restart, unlock it once. Reopen HabitFlip to refresh routines and repair monitoring. iOS controls background callback delivery, so scheduled starts can vary. A reminder is separate from app shielding.
Can I edit, copy, pause, or remove a routine?
Open a routine from Routines. Its detail page provides editing controls and Routine actions for copying, pausing, and removing. Some changes are unavailable while that routine holds apps paused; finish its current habits first. Finishing one routine does not release apps held by another.
What happens after the guided period?
A routine moves to independent practice after its 30- or 60-day guided period. Its regular app pauses stop, reminders become less frequent, and they stop within its next 14 scheduled days. App pauses can return after missed scheduled days. Open the routine’s explanation for the applicable restart rules. Other routines can still pause apps.
How do I manage permissions and reminders?
Open App settings from the gear icon. When no routine holds apps paused, Revoke Screen Time access opens a confirmation; Keep access cancels it. Allow Screen Time access requests permission again. Manage notifications or Turn off notifications opens iOS notification settings. During routine setup, Not now skips reminders for that routine.
I need to stop enforcement without completing my habits.
HabitFlip is voluntary self-control. You retain control of Screen Time authorization through iOS Settings. The in-app revoke button is disabled while a routine holds apps paused. Revoking permission does not delete saved routines or requirements, and reauthorizing may restore unfinished pauses. There is no PIN or emergency-unlock button.
Why do I see a storage error?
Unlock the phone after a restart, reopen HabitFlip, and try again. If the error continues, send support its wording, your app version, and steps to reproduce, without private content. Avoid deleting the app as a first fix: Keychain data may survive reinstall.
What is stored, and how do I remove it?
Routines, selected app tokens, and progress stay locally in a device-only shared Keychain item; migration files can remain in the shared app container. Remove inactive routines through Routine actions. There is no single erase-all-data control, and Keychain records can survive uninstall. See the privacy policy for retention details.
Does the medicine habit tell me what to take?
No. It only lets you confirm a dose already due under your existing routine. It provides no diagnosis, treatment, or dosing advice and is not a medication reminder guarantee.
What devices are supported?
HabitFlip is for iPhone and requires iOS 17 or later. Screen Time shielding requires a compatible physical device. Final supported devices will be listed on the App Store. HabitFlip does not support website blocking.
